Longevity Starts with a Decision

Is longevity a matter of luck? Or is it shaped by the choices we make every day? This was the focus of a conversation between Justyna Buksińska, Ambassador of the Zacznij od Siebie Foundation, and the team at Efficient Insurance Solutions.

The starting point was a simple question: “If your life could be measured with a tape measure, which centimetre would you be at today?” The exercise encouraged participants to reflect on what we can influence and what we should be prepared for.

The meeting focused on the Foundation’s two key pillars.

Plan A is about everyday choices: prevention, healthy habits and making a conscious effort to take care of yourself.

Plan B is about taking responsibility for situations we cannot predict.

The discussion also explored why we so often postpone important decisions. Justyna referred to the phenomenon of unrealistic optimism — the belief that difficult situations happen to other people, not to us. This mindset often leads us to delay taking care of our health or putting the right protection in place for ourselves and our loved ones. It is also one of the issues highlighted in the latest report by the Polish Chamber of Insurance (PIU).

Plan B does not take away courage. It gives you peace of mind.

Another important topic was the role of properly tailored insurance coverage. Using real-life examples, participants discussed how an ill-suited policy can lead to disappointment and a loss of trust when a claim actually occurs. This is why making informed decisions and regularly reviewing your insurance protection is so important.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for participants to review their existing insurance policies. The first people took advantage of this opportunity that very same day, showing that sometimes one conversation is enough to move from awareness to action.

“Start with Yourself” does not mean being selfish. It means making a conscious decision to take care of your health, safety and future.
